March 24, 1958 To save any researcher from going through the [ Name ] correspondence here are some findings: Mathew McConnell owned a tract of land near Halderman creek where the creek crosses the highway near the Owen O'Hanlon home. At the present time (1958) this is reached by turning from the main highway just north of the Eclipse Factory, called Bennett's Curve, and driving west. When you cross the Halderman creek bridge the old McConnell homestead is on the N.W. corner of the highway going up the creek and the one going towards Horseheads. Mathew McConnell and other members of the family were buried near the house and the markers were found when the Polly family (who had purchased it) started to landscape the grounds. Mathew's marker was (1958) still standing in the basement of the house. Mrs. James D' Ayers who was Emme Polly lives in the house at the present time and gave me the above information.
